About Our Farm

Healing Harvest Farm is on non-agricultural clay-shale soil on a south facing slope in the forested ridges of Canaan, New York. It had three seasons of commercial market gardening with Hellgate Forest Farm previously, which immensely helped by both doing an initial grading of the plots and also adding a significant amount of organic matter through plant material, wood chip mulch, and compost.

The last commercial season of Hellgate Forest Farm was 2023 when the tough decision was made to stop distributing to two weekly markets and a CSA due to team burnout. In 2024, Rob put together a homesteading crop plan for personal self-reliance and Olivia came to volunteer that April. With her help the farm took off into much more than anticipated that season and there was a surplus beyond feeding themselves and other volunteers at the space.

The concept of Healing Harvest Farm began that summer when a local friend was coming weekly, and we harvested produce with her to help nourish her and her household. The realization was healing takes place in the physical connection to the soil and the space when participating in the harvest as well as the nutritional bounty itself; our primary hope is to simultaneously nourish and heal Gaia and ourselves, which are inextricably linked.
*As we transition, we are honoring both farm names. We plan to continue the Hellgate name for the hot pepper products.
